AI is supposedly the biggest aquaculture in malaysia, but then... I'm wondering if Xian Leng has actually thumb them off that list (they're a listed in our local KLSE!). Comparing footprints, AI actually has a bigger display area, as to Xian Leng, more varieties as well. But then, I am only comparing Xian Leng's Shah Alam and not its entirety. Some people who'd actually gone to their HQ in Muar has profess of its size and magnitude!! But then, who cares about statistics, afterall... unlike panmee, it's the fishes and plants that matters in the end :) In need of a few more yamato shrimps and more fishes, we headed out there!
Every shop needs its super display tank to impress and jaw-drop. AI has two, one being a marine tank and another a planted display unit! ... man, I wonder if that's a water-cooled system underneath! Running a canister filter, with metal-halide lights... Plants are so lush and beautiful!
Sorry, didn't really like the marine tank hence no pictures of it! That's the thing about buying fishes and blogging about LFS... You really can't concentrate and do both, esp. when wifey and friends are around. There's only so much photos/fish observation one is allowed before mood changes!
AI is also known for its marine setups and tanks! Beautiful fishes, unfortunately unafforable for the poor plebs like me. At Aquafair 2008, AI was selling baby reefsharks even! If i'm not mistaken, the sales personnel told us they were going for RM600 a piece! fwah.... You'd find an assortment of sea anemones, star fishes, rays... sharks, even cultivated corals. A one stop shop for marine enthusiast! Beautiful tanks... unfortunately, raving mad prices too! :P
Say hello to a smiling leopard shark :) Just don't shake it's hands!
I do notice these days, AI seems to cater to more expensive pure-breeds. I mean, a few years ago, i never imagine sharks n this RM150 frontosa!! Beautiful as it is... RM15o?! take back n it decides to belly-up?! ouch!!
Maybe Malaysian Aquatic and Ornamental fishing community has matured in taste ... erm, nah!!! But then, AI is an exporter and this may be its extra stock they're pushing out to the local malaysian. Anyway, here's a picture of a portion of their sales setup! I bet'cha this has more freshwater fishes then even our National Zoo of Malaysia! They'd have most fishes in our local market... afterall, LFS do stock from them! Oh yeah, an in AI... go in groups, the more you'd buy, the better the discounts!
Here's the yamato shrimps!! I purchase them for RM3 per prawn, but got a RM1 discount!
Lovely banana shrimps! Was contemplating this guy... but seeing as I don't have a big tank, I decided not to! It's lovely to see them sitting in the waterflow, grabbing for food and watching them eat!
A tank of brackish water puffer-fish... fresh fugu anyone?
A cloud of frontosa...man!
And the resident clean-up crew! Resting between meals :P
Beautiful pearlscale! RM24 bucks!!
If i had the money, i'd stock my 20feet pond with a few hundred of these comet goldfish... and then throw in a starved toman (giant channa)! What am i saying!! I love fish, i really do!!

And here's the map! Using the newly done-up Subang Old Airport road, it's a breeze to get there from Ara D'sara! Erm, getting there is rather difficult as there really isn't any roadsigns as the road is under-rennovation, so I'd recommend you to head out with someone who's been there or drop them a call beforehand! :)
hey my dear can explain on how to get there... by looking from the satalite map also had no idea how to get there.....
ReplyDeletejust head towards the subang airport, keep following the old road to Sg. Buloh! You'd notice the road curving right and it'd come to a t-junction where u're able to turn left or go straight! Go staright n look out for the turning to AI! It's just one of those place u need to find to get there :)
ReplyDeleteoh, and sorry for the delayed reply!! Still new at this blogging stuff :)
ReplyDeleteHey querked just want to say a word of thanks. Without your directions and with Google map F-ed up i would never have been able to find AI.
ReplyDeleteIn addition a good review of the place. Certainly worth dropping by.
Cheers mate! :) Did u get anything big? Like maybe their's rm600 bucks reef sharks? :P Hope u had fun there!
ReplyDeletehi do they sell freshwater plants..and ow much it cost roughly.ist cheap?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous, they do sell plants, the last time i was there i bought a java fern on wood for rm6 i think. Lots of plants (glosso, ferns, java moss, all the usual suspects) but not much selection, meaning they have bulk. The more you buy the more discounts you can get :) remember to haggle!
ReplyDeletemay i know where the place located. i searched in google map but couldnt found it. It shows few places.how to go there from shah alam stadium. thank you sir ur information
ReplyDeletelol, there's a google map pin i added to this link :) U can search for it above. Otherwise, if u're coming from Shah Alam, head towards the Subang Airport. I know the roads have been changed and as such I may not have the latest know how, but i'd drive pass the Subang Terminal 3, heading towards Sungai Buloh. Keep going straight and u'd pass a few eating restaurants. At one point the road will curve right, and u'd come to a t-junction (u could either go straight or turn left). From here go straight. The moment you pass the junction, u'd have to watch for a signboard for AI immediately! oh wait... this sounds like i'm repeating myself!! Read the comments above, someone actually asked this earlier too :P Copy the numbers down and u could call them when u're in the area :) Best option I'd have for you!
ReplyDeleteok thanks for ur reply.really appreciated. actually i went this morning but coulnt find the place. Will go again in couple of days.TQ
ReplyDeleteAiyak! Hope you find it the next time you go by :) Don't give up! It's really one of the bigger LFS around!
ReplyDeleteu really have to go with someone who has been there before or call them before going..otherwise its difficult..the road turning in is a small lorong..AI is next to a besi buruk shop..
ReplyDeletethanks for the so very to easy to follow directions! went there earlier today.
ReplyDeletekois galore!! good variants and prices are very good!
lol, instructions are a good "3 years old" :P How are everything there? Is AI still as big? I've been on a long hiatus, will have to start again soon! :)
ReplyDeleteNot true anymore in 2014.
ReplyDeleteVery few staff at Aquatics Intl are knowledgeable! They used to be.
All the exotic freshwater plants are costlier than most retail aquarium shops.
Many selling price over there are expensive compared to what you can get from many smaller aquarium shops.
The marine section is poorly maintained as nearly a third are dying by the sight of balding corals and poor quality live rocks.
This place used to be very good with helpful staff.
Now it is run by Filipino cashier with Banglas and Indons who do not seem to know much.
Gosh... .that is so sad to hear! :( Have been a while since I headed over! But then, prices of things everywhere has gone up. Spotted a pair of matured haruan bunga going for sale at Xian Loon Shah Alam today... priced at rm1668! :P I really don't know what to say these days!
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to tell that LORENZO Sdn Bhd is on the same road as Aquatics International Sdn Bhd.
ReplyDeleteThis road is definitely 3rd world condition and very filthy.

lol, bro... this blog was in 2009, haven't been back since! Very hard to imagine what else will pop out in the future too :)
ReplyDeleteplz update! i am getting poorer despite what our billionaire pm telling us we all gonna be high income earners. -Kim
ReplyDeleteAquarium International is no longer as good. Go to their marine section and see one third of their stocks dying. Marine prices are not put up which is against the law!
ReplyDeleteTheir display tanks which used to look gorgeous 10 years ago now look the most embarrassing in Selangor. The only thing better is that the cashier speaks good English!

lol, sad reality of the pet industries these days... what loses colors unfortunately gets neglected... :(

ReplyDeleteMy name is Lisa Lieu. Thanks for the info here.
ReplyDeleteWe went up there last Tuesday. It is a huge place but does not look safe as wires covered with spider webs are simply places overhead about 5 feet 6 inches which touched our heads. The toilets were disgusting and stained badly. Most of the display tanks had overgrown mossy algae. The prices are not cheap.
Worse part the author forget to mention is how terribly bad the roads leading to aquatics-international. To us, it is not worth going there risking your car suspension.
thanks for the comments Lisa! It's been 7 years ago this article was written :) things changes over time unfortunately. Price there has always been haggle-ble, more purchases made, cheaper it'd be! It's mostly wholesaler market they'd cater towards
Deleteto all readers, Aquatics International is now closed permanently. Seems they've decided to shut down business since last November, 2016. Alas, the aquascape/aquarium industry will feel its lost :(
ReplyDeleteOwh man..I just arrived AI location..
